Elephant Stables in Hampi; 15th century India.
Believe it, or not! This one's real, not a "Ripley's"!
The king and his commander-in-chief, during the peak period of the Vijayanagara empire, would be seated atop elephants when they went into the battlefield. During festivals, or in religious processions, the royal family would go out on elephants. You see eight of the 11 domes in this pix. Well, you guessed it - even I'm not that tough to capture all of them! :-) |
