It is pretty hard to tell what does bring happiness; poverty and wealth have both failed.
~ Kin Hubbard (1868 - 1930)
"Kin Hubbard was a cartoonist, journalist and philosopher. He created the cartoon character 'Abe Martin', a home-cured philosopher, that appeared from 1906 to 1929. Fascinated by theater, Hubbard once wrote to a friend about a show, embellishing his remarks with some drawings. Impressed by Hubbard's artwork, the friend showed the drawings to the editor of the Indianapolis News. This paved the way for his future career. Hired in 1891, Hubbard stayed with the News for three years. After his stint at the News, he did several small jobs. He returned to the News however in 1901, and he stayed there until his death.
"Hubbard became well-known for his caricatures of state political figures. From 1904, he began using the character of 'Abe Martin' in his political comments. The character was a success, and several books have appeared. Kin Hubbard died of a heart attack on 26 December 1930."
