Watch out! Wheels of this "chariot"... may just start rolling!
Carved in stone in the 15th-16th century, but destroyed by invaders soon after, wheels of this Hindu shrine, which housed "Garuda" or the eagle - a mount for "Vishnu", a major Hindu God, ostensibly turned on their axles!
This shrine which also once had a pyramidal tower, faces the Vitthala Temple - the much-admired temple complex of Vijayanagara aka Hampi. Despite the senseless destruction of these fabulously carved palaces and temples, as I've so oft mentioned, what is left of its beauty, is indeed protected now under the auspices of UNESCO's World Heritage program, as are the other monuments in this gorgeous location.
