what is amazing to me is... how an object that barely weighs an ounce can weigh a ton in meaning. how materials like metal, string and plastic can embrace, and nearly strangle a heart with pure emotion. how an image so cliche as the "smile face" can transcend it's history and become a precious pendant. my nephew made this for me last year for christmas. he and i live somewhat parallel lives. four years ago we were both diagnosed with cancer just weeks apart. our journeys took each of us on very different paths. to pass the time and make a little extra money we both, unknowing to one another, started making beaded necklaces. on this necklace each bead has an initial representing my parents and all of my siblings. i made a necklace for my mother that christmas . the beading represented each of her children and grandchildren. he said quite simply "great minds think alike".
please see http://www.fotoamigo.com/fluvial/?id=10281. fluvial and i are sisters. |
