It's hard to do justice to The Gates in photographs -- which I think is part of the point -- the artists invite you to have a real experience, and no two experiences of the work can be the same. Of course this is true of most good art because art can attempt to convey complicated ideas and nuanced pleasures in a kind of "irreducible" way -- the pleasure of walking through "The Gates" is for me public, private, and irreducible all at once. |
