This is essentially a Blog about a mix of old-fashioned wooden boat making, beer, movie props, beer, sweat, tears, frustration, more beer, and finally some sort of realized goal. Basically, and hypothetically a dream come true. In short, we're going to be refurbishing an old lobster trawler and turning it into the famous shark fishing boat from the classic film "Jaws".
If you don’t know anything about the boat we're making, and just in case you're wondering what the heck this Blog is all about, please see our website to learn more—

log #1
At a small secret boat building/repair shop in Seattle plans get underway to purchase a 1960's Lobster Trawler to use as the core boat.
The builder "JT" has three boats in mind to use for this project. They vary in size from 35'-to a big 38 footer…
Without accurate information or original blueprints from Universal Studios available at this stage it'll make the going a little tougher but not impossible. JT's been running the film backwards and forwards for a month now and from eyeballing scenes in the film, guesstimates the original ‘Orca’ to have been about 35 feet, not counting the bow pulpit. The bow pulpit was the extended plankway at the front end of the boat that one hung over to get that extra reach when attempting to harpoon a shark or a whale.
JT: "In general it’s hard to tell the size of the boat in the movie as my dinky home TV screen generally makes things look bigger and closer than they are. Kind of like the side mirror on your family car. now where’d I leave that coors?…."
