Near north-side of Chicago. About 10 years ago. This fire on Huron Street just west of Orleans. The fire consumed around 4 or 5 of these old factory buildings. That would be bad enough, but they were now art galleries and the fire lost was over 200 million dollars in art alone. The word was the insurance companies paid the company that appraised the lost 10% of the value of the settlement. I was at the fire house that day and manage to take this. My real concern was that the fire started in a gallery that VS Electric the company I owned at the time had just completed a large job. Hundreds of feet of track lights, outlets, switches and electric panels. Lucky for me it was the floor people who started it with propane torches while trying to remove old glue or what ever on the floor. |
