St. John Gabriel Perboyre was a Vincentian missionary in 19th century China. He preached and exemplified the Gospel with zeal where Christianity was outlawed and its followers were ruthlessly persecuted. In 1840, tied to a stake and strangled, he was martyred for his faith. John Gabriel is a model for those courageous enough to make great sacrifices for the proclamation of the Gospel of Christ.

Vincentian Missioners Prayer for Lent:
+
Divine Saviour,
Transform me into Yourself. May my hands be Your hands, May my tongue be Your tongue. Grant that every faculty of my body serve to glorify Your Name.
Above all, Transform my soul and all its powers that my memory, my will, and my affections may be Your memory, Your will, and Your affections.
I pray to You to destroy in me all that which is not of You.
Grant that I may live in You, by You and for You, that I may say, with St. Paul, "I live, now not I, but Christ lives in me".
Amen
