Repost Sometime 2005
I was looking for a snap of my mother at her uncle Bob's ranch and came across this picture of MY Uncle Bob, her elder brother, looking mighty snazzy, about 1949 or so.
I didn't meet him until many years later; I liked him a lot. Very funny fellow. (The O'Connors were *not* noted for closeness!)
He was a dresser! He and my Dad were Big Band fans and both loved to dance. He was my Dad's buddy after the war (I forget how they metup), and that's how my Mom met my Dad!
The funny thing is is in later years she *hated* any Big Band music, even though she liked virtually any other kind of music she heard - she was not a player, but she really had an ear for the good stuff!
I loved Big Band music and love it still! My Dad loved to dance well into his 70's, and he was very good at it.
My musical talent came from my Dad's side - his mother used to play for the "silents" - did you know that music was mostly improvisation as the movie went along? Well, now you now! I never heard her play - her arthritis was pretty bad by the time I was old enough, but I do know everyone raved about her talent.
