For Petie Gilbert, my ole buddy, ole pal -
My old "pony keys" (185,000 miles on my 1964-1/2 Mustang) AND the new Nevada quarter with . . . Mustangs on it!
Also on the key ring are: - an ooollld laundry tag, - an ollld Mark Hopkins Hotel (San Francisco and yes, that's what the building looked like from the ground looking UP), both from an old junk/antique store (the $1 bowl) in South Lake Tahoe; "The Mark's" key marker was from back when keys were metal - on the reverse it has the address and "free postage for return, drop in any mailbox" .
Also are three little keys - City Life - - one for the padlock on the chain that locked my car hood down, - one for my locked gas cap, and - one for my anti-theft device (similar to but much simpler and cheaper than "the Club" which later became so famous). This device locked the brake pedal to the steering wheel - no key, no brakes or steering . . .
My Mustang was stolen once (in braod daylight in the Sunset distrct from in front of where I lived; I got it back, locked up! It had been raced until dry on the Great Highway which resulted in the block cracking . . .). It also was broken into (after I geot the anti-theft device) and then later someone who was an idjit stole an ENTIRE wheel rim - I hope karma made them have a 1965 or 1966 Mustang, which had one inch bigger rims, *and* one more lug nut; mine wouldn't have fit!
I'd still have my Baby (I learned to drive in it) but the San Francisco fog ate the body and . . . well, it was time . . . |
