The legends differ - one I read says on the left hand the heart, when taken, is worn facing INWARD! Who knows!! I wear mine on my right anyways, I have three rings on my left already! :D "fede" rings take other forms later on and were a big thing in Victorian daze; also "poesy" rings with sayings engraved on the shanks and rings that spell names with the first letter of each stone (what we call "mother rings" now using the kids's birthstones are similar in intent). A fun book with that jewelry in the background: "Into the Darkness", a Barbara Michaels (aka Elizabeth Peters) classic romance/mystery. I love it!
