Is it Turkey? Good human interest picture.
rosebud
you know what... it *is* Turkey.
Did you walk around alone? Did you feel safe? Welcome?

interesting questions. on our last day in istanbul we walked through the poorest, most destitute place i have ever been. i was told that mostly gypsies lived here. i was with two guys. but i would have felt fine alone. it was just poor, but the people were nice and friendly. i greeted them in turkish, which means i said "Merhaba" and they all smiled. but yeah... there was some shady stuff going down. i wish we had spent more time in hoods like this... they were fascinating and cool.
thanks for a full and thoughtful response

You can have a veggie burger or anything you want. How about fried green tomatoes?

The jewel of joy is given to the impoverished, not the affluent. Maybe it's true.

"beautiful shot. yeah, it's always a lot more interesting on the poor side of town." This is worth breaking the one word project, I knew it would happen, just not so soon. I am having a real dilema with the selection of words here "meadows". First off, is it interesting as in "ZOO" interesting, interesting as in "it makes YOU feel "special" or "privledged" or "lucky" not to be "them" interesting, interesting as in entertaining, interesting as in "you can go home to a better quality of life but t
life but thanks for the wisdom". And "the poor side of town" part, man, why not just say "the other side of the tracks for christ sake. Words have meaning, as one or combined in a sentence, say what you feel, not what you know, there is a difference. If you meant that one is no less or greater with less than what you have and this is humbling to you, then say that. If you meant those with "less" than you, have and hold more, then say that. However you say it don't say "yeah, it's always a lot
always a lot more interesting on the poor side of town". It makes me think you are a pompous ass. Go live on the poor side of town.
Sorry Rosebud, for using this space to voice my opinion, I hope there is no harm done, it's just an opinion.
and meadows, this is not personal, just questioning "words".
OH wow fluvial I also thought about lashing out. But honestly, I think they both were saying it innocently. They are brother and sister and both do a lot of important documenting of life for others to see and learn from through their photographs. Yes, words do have very strong meanings beyond the superficial sound, however-this was a thoughtless slip...a quick posting which was not meant to hurt.
Meadows like Rosebud are not just good, but exceptional beings. I got no reason to kiss ass here, I'm usually kicking it just for fun, but honestly--let it go, I wish I was half as good a person as Meadows. I swear man and I got little to lose.
I was not questioning his person, his character, his gender, nor his sisiter. I was not hurt, and no, I was not "lashing" out, my tone was sharpened only from my concern of words and implied judgements, and I am doubting the innocent part. Think beyond the self. Take my opinion or leave it, but for the sake of an open mind don't be hurt by them.
Fair enough. Meadows can speak for himself.
Wait. You think I am "hurt" by what I still see as an "innocent" error. Thanks for thinking so little of others. Second,"Think beyond the self", is that to me? I'm not thinking of myself. I am thinking of that child who is real in Turkey, of the photographer who experienced just a glimpse of that child's world and Meadows who simply "fucked up" because sometimes people do.
Don't talk down to people with the belief (old english: wish or desire) that you are more actuated tahn the next person, and can advise me or whoever sees this post to step outside themselves, thinking "beyond the self" because that is a premeditated pompous thought on your part and therefore not innocent.
Hell, you say you are not here to lash out at Meadows but I don't see much of an attempt at understanding other perspectives either. As to "my concern of words and implied judgements" how about direct judgements you have made on Meadows without hearing from him, and the implications you read from my statements? I see one mind that has closed here. Hey Meadows, if you feel like answering do so in one word--it is the most Fluvial was giving up to now.
Lastly, Mr. Wordsmith, you said "I was not questioning his... his character." Wel I certainly hope not because the only place you are going to find a character is in a play. People don't have character, they have personalities, which you did get in "person." Now if words mean so much to you, then be more precise in the future. Words don't mean that much to me, beings do; as a result I can allow myself to be loose. So VERITAS baby...your language has privilege written all over it...hypocritical?
calm down daviddonovan. I meant: I hope meadows is not hurt by my opinion. What I meant when saying "Think beyond the self" I was referring to my opinion, taking it beyond emotional attachments. I was not talking down to anyone, unless meadows puts me on a pedestal, and only he can do that. Perhaps I should have taken your route, you "thought" about lashing out, or maybe that's the issue here, and belongs elsewhere. And trust me, read the commentary around here, people think, play act, and in
, and interact outside themselves all the time.
let's hear from meadows if he wishes, let him own this if he wishes, or dismiss it. Take your muscles where they are wanted and needed, flex them elsewhere, where they can be more impressive. You are here to knock me down, and that won't happen. I stay behind my words.
No I was here to defend both Rosebud and Meadows.
Knock you down? No only if I really wanted to. You are a tough one...this I will admit.
"flex them elsewhere, where they can be more impressive" you are too funny
I thought you knew them? I believe they are both stronger than you know, or allow yourself to believe.
I know Meadows. I think I met Rosebud for a moment on one or two occasions for a moment years ago--she is much younger than I am.
Oh, stronger tahn I know? Sure. They both know I'll sleep with them.
My typing is getting really bad, moving to my album.
Oh hey, Rosebud, had a little brohaha on your post but we cleaned up, sorry for the mess.
