rdale1 I love this. My first job was setting type on a letter press. Not related to book binding but had to do with printing.
GeoChuck Nice I used to work for a printer and letter press, brings back memories I didn't bind but worked with the presses.
rdale1 The letter press I operated weighted about 2 tons. My son, Jay has a hand operated one in his office. It's a table top model.
candyruth How odd I couldn't guess this - oh, wait - I've never seen such a contraption in my life and until recently just figured books came shooting out of a machine somehow. Very cool, this nipping press. How old is it?
jimvoves I'll join in, I took print shop for 4 years in high school. Learn to set type by hand(The California case) and worked the old print press the one with the fly wheel on the side and ink on the round plate above. It was fun but when I left school I went to work for Illinois Bell. That was 45 years ago, thanks for the memories.
rdale1 I'd say Jay's press is fairly old, It's useable and he has type for it.
Curious! I like the traditional tools.
doramay why would someone torture books like this?!? jk
tomswift46 I'm really enjoying looking at this equipment. I think that DB and Prof. Mouse have Star Power unlike tom cruise
